Objective

Pioneer a new, ecologically sensitive approach to understanding well-being in Tanzania, challenging the global happiness narrative propagated by the World Happiness Report.

Approach

Conduct a mixed-methods population study focused on reexamining Gallup’s World Happiness Report, providing an ethnographically informed understanding of well-being in Tanzania.

Outcomes

Radically different understanding of issues driving community well-being, exposing cultural biases in existing research methodologies. Published first wave of findings in a paper titled "What the World Happiness Report doesn’t see: The sociocultural contours of wellbeing in northern Tanzania."
